Markus Krösche, Albert Riera and Nathaniel Brown reflect on the 1-1 draw at Union Berlin.
Board member for sport Markus Krösche: “The coach has been here four days and we’ve already made good progress, particularly in terms of our compactness. We were very good defensively and in possession, we were flexible throughout and didn’t lose possession cheaply very often. Overall, we were firmly in control and didn’t give away many transitions. When we did, someone was there to deal with it. We missed one or two opportunities to get the ball into our forwards, but other than that it was a good start and a step in the right direction.”
Head coach Albert Riera: “I was pleased with the energy and passion of my players. We were dominant and knew when to attack and when to defend. I saw a lot of positives, but we can obviously do even better. There were a lot of moments when we were flexible. I wanted the players to enjoy the game. It all takes time and the players will internalise [my philosophy]. We were close to winning the game. Better results will also give us a better feeling on the pitch. We didn’t give much away overall, which is the only way you can win games.”
Nathaniel Brown: “I’m very proud of the team. The result is obviously tough to take, but I think it was a good performance. It was really nice to score. It was a lovely pass from Ayoube and I just went directly for goal. The incident leading up to the penalty was certainly unfortunate, but that’s football. We just need to keep going now.”
