Robert Lewandowski cut a proud and satisfied figure after FC Barcelona’s emphatic 7-2 victory over Newcastle United, with the Polish striker reflecting on both his own performance and the team’s attacking display after the game.

Following his brace on the night, the veteran forward made it clear that there was plenty for FC Barcelona to be pleased about, even if the performance was not perfect. Speaking after the match, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo, Lewandowski said:

“I’m very happy and very proud, both of myself and of the team.”

It was an understandable reaction from the Polish striker, who not only found the net twice but also played an important role in a game where Barcelona’s attack overwhelmed Newcastle in the second half. At the same time, the Barcelona striker also acknowledged that the team was not flawless defensively. Lewandowski admitted:

“We made some mistakes; maybe it was too easy for Newcastle to score.”

That honesty reflected the reality of a game in which Barcelona still conceded twice despite completely taking over as an attacking force. However, for Lewandowski, the final scoreline ultimately put everything into perspective. Summing up the night in simple fashion, he added:

“But if you score seven goals, you can be very happy.”

The brace also carried extra meaning for the striker personally. Lewandowski had been waiting to rediscover his scoring touch since being forced to wear a protective mask following the fracture he suffered in the inner facial orbit of his left eye against Villarreal.

After scoring against Newcastle United, he even celebrated while waving the mask, underlining how meaningful the moment was for him.

For Robert Lewandowski, then, this was more than just another two-goal night. It was the night that he returned to form and stepped up for Barcelona at the biggest stage.
