Andrey Santos was trusted with a big start in midfield against Man City on Sunday, but he wasn’t able to help Chelsea get a result.

A decent first half was followed by a total collapse in the second period. The Blues could barely create a dangerous attack, and looked devoid of belief as City walked all over them. The midfielder spoke to the club’s official website today with some thoughts on the game.

Santos on Chelsea challenges after another defeat

“Every single game in the Premier League is hard and Manchester City are a top team with top players, but at 0-0 we were doing well and it was frustrating to concede the first goal,” the midfielder said.

It was actually Santos who played a key role in conceding that first goal – his bad awareness and body position made it so easy for Nico O’Reilly to steal past him and head in Rayan Cherki’s cross.

“We understand the fans are frustrated – we are frustrated too. When you talk about Chelsea, you talk about winning games, which we’re not doing. It’s a difficult moment but we have to work hard and keep going.”

Work hard and keep going. Stick together. It’s the same platitudes we hear every time. But even after a couple of weeks on the training pitch, we see no difference.

In other news…

It feels like new players won’t save this project, but that won’t stop them buying them, including one interesting Premier League based target.

Liam Rosenior was left “seething” by the actions of one of his players in the game on Sunday.
