Tottenham skipper Cristian Romero has said a trophy is still the aim for Tottenham this season, despite a tough start to the campaign.
Spurs have only won three of their last 11 games, and those victories came against Copenhagen, Brentford and Slavia Prague.
But both Romero and Rodrigo Bentancur still believe that a trophy could be on the cards this season. The Argentinian said: “Well these are moments we have to go through. We need to learn, keep working, and improve. It’s never easy when a new coach arrives.
“Of course, there are many things to improve, but the most important thing is that all players and the coaching staff are moving in the same direction so we can finish the season well. There’s still a lot to do, but we’re working to win another title. Hopefully, it will happen, and if not, we’ll keep trying.”
Liverpool visit north London this weekend in what is an important fixture for both clubs, and Bentancur said that getting used to the feeling of winning is crucial for Spurs.
“Giving a title to the fans, I think, is the most important thing. But for next year and this season, we want to do the same – win a trophy, get used to winning, which is also what we’re here for. I hope we can achieve that again this season.”
The Lilywhites won their first trophy in 17 years last campaign when they beat Manchester United to lift the Europa League title, and now the players clearly have a taste for more.
Cristian Romero and Rodrigo Bentancur were speaking at Barnet Hospital’s Galaxy Ward for children and young people in a show of support for local hospitals around the Christmas period.
