Carlo Ancelotti dropped Wesley from Brazil’s squad on Friday 27 after the ex-Flamengo full-back suffered a thigh muscle injury in the 2-1 defeat to France. According to Coluna Do Fla, he will now be sidelined for Roma.

Wesley started at right-back against France and was replaced in the 26th minute of the second half after feeling pain in his thigh. He was fouled in the incident that led to Dayot Upamecano being sent off.

Club tests are said to have confirmed a right biceps femoris problem, with an expected absence of about one month. The setback is not considered an issue for Brazil’s 2026 World Cup plans.

A Flamengo academy graduate, Wesley played 139 matches, scoring four goals and providing six assists. He won two Copas do Brasil, two Cariocas, one Libertadores and one Supercopa do Brasil with the club.

After an uneven start, he earned the fans’ trust and, in 2024, became a regular under Filipe Luís. He was then sold to Roma for 25 million euros, around R$160 million at the time.

Meanwhile, Flamengo continue preparations to face Red Bull Bragantino on Thursday 02 after the FIFA window. Kick-off is 21:30 Brasília time at Estádio Cicero de Souza Marques in the ninth round of the Brasileirão.
