Former Santos forward Weslley Patati has lifted the Dutch Cup with AZ Alkmaar, ending the club’s 13-year wait for the trophy.

AZ beat NEC 5-1 on Sunday 19 to secure their fifth Dutch Cup. According to Diario Do Peixe, the Brazilian quickly established himself as a starter and won the crowd’s backing.

Patati has two goals and three assists in 36 appearances this season. Highlights include scoring against Ajax in a national classic, and featuring in a 6-0 win that was AZ’s biggest against their traditional rivals.

He described the triumph as a special milestone, his first title with the shirt, adding that celebrating it in a final was indescribable. He said he has been warmly received, which aided his adaptation and development, and that he feels a strong connection with the club he hopes to keep building on.

Before moving to the Netherlands, he impressed at Maccabi Tel Aviv with 14 goals and nine assists in 40 matches, winning the Israeli league and cup. Supporters nicknamed him the ‘Mago Brasileiro’ and he wore the number 10 the following season. For Santos’s first team he made 33 appearances, scoring two and assisting once, after winning the 2022 Paulista Under-20 title and receiving Brazil youth call-ups.
