Wrexham have had a relatively slow start to the transfer window as they look to improve Phil Parkinson’s squad ahead of what they hope will be a push for promotion this season.

The Red Dragons’ rise since the Hollywood duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney bought the club, but they couldn’t make it four consecutive promotions last season as they missed out on a play-off place on the final day.

Despite that disappointment, it’s clear Wrexham are a club on the up, and the challenge going into this window is to add quality rather than quantity, with Danny Imray the only addition so far.

Wrexham have been linked with a move for Preston’s Ben Whiteman, but the two clubs have been unable to agree a fee for North End’s skipper at this moment in time.

And, according to journalist Alan Nixon, the North Wales outfit have another potential option in the middle of the park, as he claims West Brom’s Jayson Molumby is ‘in their sights’.

The update explains that, like Whiteman, the Republic of Ireland international may be tempted by the chance to move to the Racecourse Ground due to the contract offer that could be on the table.

Interestingly, it’s also said that there is a possibility that Wrexham could continue to pursue both Whiteman and Molumby, although securing both players may depend on outgoings and if it’s realistic financially.

Jayson Molumby would be a very solid signing for Wrexham

This wouldn’t be the most eye-catching deal for Wrexham, but Molumby is a proven Championship performer, and you could see him excelling under Parkinson.

The former Brighton man is very aggressive in the way he plays, and, when they’re at their best, Wrexham play with real intensity and bite, which makes him a good fit.

As outlined above, this isn’t a window where Wrexham will be taking unnecessary risks in the market, and it’s not a case of trying to overhaul the squad.

Therefore, going for someone like Molumby, who knows the league and will be able to make an instant impact, makes a lot of sense.

Of course, from Albion’s perspective, he is a player that they will not want to lose, as Molumby was a regular last season, and he was particularly impressive under James Morrison during the run-in, as the Baggies secured their Championship safety.
