Albion will report back for pre-season on June 25, the same day the EFL fixtures are released, as James Morrison begins his first campaign as head coach.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, Morrison oversaw an escape from relegation after taking interim charge in February and now wants to push higher up the Championship.

The transfer window opens on Monday and could trigger activity, with Albion aiming for early business. Morrison has stayed in close contact with director of football operations Ian Pearce and technical director Dominic Price since the season ended.

It will be the first window since the 2024 Bilkul takeover not driven by the need to slash inherited losses. While mindful of profit and sustainability rules, the Baggies have greater flexibility and are not compelled to sell before they buy.

Contract talks continue. Goalkeeper Max O’Leary has agreed new terms, discussions remain ongoing with forward Karlan Grant, and the club await Josh Maja’s decision on their offer.

Morrison is also looking to settle his backroom team. Assistant Matt Gill impressed on a short-term deal and Albion would like to retain him.

More friendlies are expected to be confirmed. For now, Albion will face Sheffield Wednesday behind closed doors at St George’s Park on July 11, then visit Peterborough on August 1.
