The Baggies have a fight on their hands to land Danny Imray ahead of the 2026-27 season.

West Brom will be hopeful of bringing back Danny Imray to The Hawthorns this summer after a successful loan spell last term.

The 22-year-old flourished in the blue and white stripes when linking up for the second half of last season on loan from Crystal Palace, but didn’t manage to showcase his attributes until James Morrison was placed in interim charge following the sacking of Eric Ramsay.

Shining at right-back at the back end of last season, Imray was crucial to helping Albion go on a 10-game unbeaten streak, which ultimately was the catalyst in keeping the Black Country outfit in the second tier.

After being unleashed from the shackles of Ramsay, ‘Mozza’s’ 4-4-2 system allowed Imray to maraud forward down the right-hand side and act like a second winger, with the front-footed full-back notching one goal and two assists from 16 league appearances, with Man of the Match displays against Hull City and Watford.

Mixing such impressive attacking displays with his dogged defensive duties, it’s clear to see why so many Albion fans want Imray to remain on the club’s books, and if a signing can get over the line, then there would be massive optimism about how the 2026-27 term plays out.

It had been reported back in May by The Telegraph’s John Percy that one of the Baggies’ main aims was to land Imray once again ahead of the new second tier campaign, with the ex-Blackpool and Bromley defender so integral to the way Morrison wants his team to shape up.

With Albion’s interest in Imray there for all to see, an update has emerged on the transfer tussle that West Brom face, with the club expected to be battling it out against eight other Championship sides for his signature, with two of those interested parties revealed by respected journalist Steve Tudgay.

As per a report by journalist Steve Tudgay on the West Brom-themed website ‘Full Throstle’, it has been revealed that West Brom are one of eight Championship sides interested in a move for Crystal Palace’s Danny Imray this summer.

The wing-back, who enters the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park, has generated a significant amount of interest following his exploits at The Hawthorns last season, and seemingly has plenty of options to choose from.

Two other sides who are weighing up whether to make offers are Stoke City and Wrexham, who will both be hopeful that they can compete for promotion next season after spending periods of time towards the top end of the standings last term.

The report has also outlined that the most likely deal to be agreed is another loan, but Palace could well be open to selling, while Imray is believed to be interested in moving away permanently.

It’s no surprise that talk is ramping up over Danny Imray making an exit from Crystal Palace, with the arrival of Spanish defender Oscar Mingueza only pushing him further down the pecking order under new boss Pierre Sage.

While Imray would have liked the opportunity to impress, it seems now that his days for the Eagles are numbered, with so many Championship clubs ready to hand him a chance.

But when it comes to this transfer race, you would imagine West Brom would be leading the way given Imray’s immediate success in the Black Country.

Such an impressive loan spell turned him into a fan favourite at The Hawthorns, while he was one of the first names on the team sheet given how consistent his displays were under Morrison, which were pivotal to seeing the club retain its Championship status.

It’s no doubt a signing that would create huge jubilation among the fanbase, and Imray must be keen on going back to a place where he is so loved and played some of the best football of his early career.

There is a concern for the Baggies about the number of sides interested, but there should be confidence that they will come out on top, with Imray bound to be prioritising going back to familiar surroundings.

Based off his previous displays, Imray has the talent to be one of the best wing-backs in the division next season, and with this deal potentially proving crucial to seeing Albion getting back into the promotion mix, it's imperative the club get this deal over the line at all costs.
