West Bromwich Albion are pushing for further signings after completing the capture of Barney Stewart as their first summer arrival. The 22-year-old striker joined from Falkirk for an initial fee of around £1.3million, confirmed on Wednesday.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, talks over a move for Chelsea’s Jimmy-Jay Morgan are at an advanced stage, and Albion are on the verge of signing Liverpool teenager Carter Pinnington.
The club want early progress in the first transfer window since Bilkul Group’s 2024 takeover, where the primary focus is not on reducing losses. Albion have held talks with Karlan Grant over a new deal, and striker Josh Maja has been offered a contract.
Boss James Morrison is expected to finalise his backroom staff, with negotiations under way with Celtic over bringing Gavin Strachan to The Hawthorns.
Stewart’s rise has been rapid, as he only made his professional debut last year. London-born, he was spotted by Falkirk while playing as an amateur for Heriot Watt University after moving to Scotland to study sports science.
He scored 19 goals in his first full professional season, including 10 in the Scottish Premiership after being recalled from a loan at Dunfermline. Interest from several English clubs followed, and Albion won the race for his signature. The transfer is a club-record sale for Falkirk.
