Eric Ramsay is under increasing pressure following a disastrous start to life in charge of Championship strugglers West Bromwich Albion...

West Bromwich Albion have found themselves battling against the ever-intensifying threat of relegation to League One in what has been a dismal campaign for the Black Country outfit.

There was significant excitement surrounding the summer appointment of Ryan Mason after missing out on a top-six berth under Tony Mowbray last time out, although the former Tottenham Hotspur coach never quite got going at the Hawthorns and was relieved of his duties in January.

That led West Brom to roll the dice on Eric Ramsay, though that decision is yet to pay dividends and the Baggies have seen their miseries compounded in recent weeks by slipping further into relegation bother.

It's been a nightmareish season both on and off-the-pitch at the Hawthorns, with ex-sporting director Andrew Nestor having also departed his post in a messy saga earlier this month.

Ramsay's appointment, which was recommended by Nestor in one of his final significant acts at Albion, is swiftly shaping up to prove a disastrous call. The ex-Minnesota United boss has failed to win any of his opening seven matches in charge ahead of tomorrow's fixture at home to league leaders Coventry City, with the Baggies losing four of those and slipping down to 21st place in the process.

Indeed, West Brom are only outside of the relegation zone courtesy of Leicester City's recent six-point deduction, and the prospect of falling into League One remains a distinct possibility amid growing scrutiny from supporters, who are already beginning to make their feelings on Ramsay's position clear.

Potential Eric Ramsay sack update emerges at West Bromwich Albion

A potential update involving Ramsay's future in charge has emerged this morning from John Percy of The Telegraph, via his X account.

In a report on West Brom's current predicament, Percy described that the 34-year-old is "already under huge pressure" following a difficult start to his tenure.

Percy's report then added that there are "growing doubts" surrounding Ramsay's future in the dugout, which has received scrutiny and backlash from increasingly disgruntled supporters in recent times and could now be under serious threat as the club's hierarchy look to avoid relegation to the third-tier at all costs.

It's not suggested that a second managerial sacking of the campaign is imminent, although pressure on Ramsay now appears to extend beyond the Baggies fanbase and it would, of course, be no real surprise to see the Welshman's dismissal before long if he fails to turn the side's fortunes around.

West Brom's key decision-makers are now sure to be watching unfolding events with real intent as doubts continue to emerge over Ramsay's immediate and long-term future at the helm.

West Brom, Eric Ramsay have season-defining tests on the horizon

The Baggies are now set to play three matches in the next seven days in what undoubtedly represents a season-defining week for the Championship strugglers, and one which could ultimately decide what lies ahead for Ramsay.

As aforementioned, an imposing home fixture awaits tomorrow afternoon in the form of Coventry's trip across the Midlands before successive relegation six-pointers against Charlton Athletic and Oxford United.

West Brom are five points shy of the 18th-placed Addicks, while next Saturday's visit to Oxford is an unmissable opportunity to clinch three crucial points and enforce welcome distance from a side with just 28 points to their name.

After that double-header, a number of encounters against outfits with designs on achieving top-six finishes remain in even stiffer tests, which means there is no margin for failure ahead of such a significant week of action for Ramsay's side.

Four points against Charlton and Oxford would perhaps represent an absolute minimum for the Baggies, and defeat in either could only serve to amplify the threat of spending the 2026/27 campaign in League One, a growing threat which, if sealed, would be cataclysmic for Albion.
