Brentford secured their first Premier League away win of the season after beating West Ham United 2-0 at London Stadium.

Igor Thiago's fifth goal of the campaign and a late Mathias Jensen strike capped off a dominant display by the Bees, which saw them have 22 shots on the Hammers goal - the most in a game since the club's promotion to the top flight.

Dango Ouattara was named in Brentford's starting XI for the Premier League clash, with the Burkina Faso international replacing Aaron Hickey in the one change from the home defeat to Manchester City prior to the international break.

Despite a flurry of West Ham set-pieces in the opening 15 minutes, it was a slow start to the game in east London. However, the visitors were left wondering how they weren't ahead on the half-hour mark.

The Bees had an incredible eight shots in five minutes, with three of them on target, but they just couldn't find a way through Alphonse Areola and into the West Ham net.

The first came courtesy of a Michael Kayode cross after a short throw, for once, from the right-back, which Ouattara superbly flicked on to Thiago, but the centre-forward couldn't scramble it in from close range and fired over the bar.

The next also fell to Thiago, when a short corner to Jordan Henderson was played back to Mikkel Damsgaard and he whipped a cross into Nathan Collins at the back post. It was nodded back across goal to the Brazilian striker, but his effort was saved by the flailing arm of Areola.

Another set-piece, which West Ham struggled to deal with throughout the first half, was played in, with the corner finding Ouattara, and his looping header was flicked wide off the line by Jarrod Bowen.

One more corner in that chaotic period fell straight to Ouattara again, but the former Bournemouth man's second header in quick succession went wide of the goal from the edge of the six-yard box.

The domination, territory and consistent chance creation continued before half-time and, eventually, led to the opener.

A ball over the top from Yehor Yarmoliuk was controlled by Kevin Schade in behind and, after getting the bouncing ball under control, he squared it across to his team-mate Thiago, who finally found the back of the net despite Areola's best efforts, after it trickled across the line.

Thiago thought he had another in stoppage-time before but, after a delicate chip into the back of the net, which came courtesy of a lovely Damsgaard pass, the striker had been in an offside position from the initial ball forward.

The west Londoners ended the half with 15 shots - the joint-most of any team in the first half of a Premier League game so far this season.

Despite a triple sub by West Ham at half-time, Brentford continued their dominance in the second half and Schade had a golden opportunity to make it 2-0.

Kayode made the chance from open play this time, as he clipped a ball into the penalty area and, despite a fantastically-timed jump from the German, his header thumped against the crossbar and away from danger.

Sepp van den Berg had another headed chance inside the penalty area, which skimmed off his head and wide of the goal - another opportunity the Bees were wondering how they hadn't scored.

Some defensive switches as the game came to a close shored things up for Andrews' side, which was helped by the hosts going down to 10 men after an injury to Konstantinos Mavropanos, before Jensen netted the second in the final embers of the game.

Keane Lewis-Potter squared the ball to his fellow substitute, with the midfielder firing home to secure Brentford's first away win of the season.

West Ham: Areola; Walker-Peters (Wan-Bissaka HT), Todibo, Kilman, Scarles (Diouf HT); Irving (Marshall 61), Soucek (Rodríguez 71); Bowen, Mateus Fernandes (Mavropanos HT), Summerville; Paquetá

Andrews: It was a very, very competent performance

Keith Andrews has given his thoughts on Brentford's comprehensive win over West Ham.

"I'm very pleased," stated the head coach.

"In the first few minutes, we didn't get as much contol we would have liked.

"But once we got our front three involved in the game and started to dictate proceedings... I thought we were very good, overall.

"We were good with the ball, how we pressed, set-pieces - unfortunately we didn't score from one - and it was a very, very competent performance."

Ajer on why 'sensational' preparations led to West Ham win

Brentford defender Kristoffer Ajer believes the way he and his Bees team-mates trained in the build-up to Monday's victory against the Hammers was a key reason as to why they left east London with all three points.

"We always respect every team in the Premier League, we have to always be really on it," the Norwegian explained.

"But, to be honest, the training this week has been sensational coming back from international duty.

"It was incredible to watch how well everyone trained; the quality in training over the last three days had been really good.

"So I was confident going into the game."
