West Ham United have agreed a deal to sign Carlos Soler from Paris Saint-Germain, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

The Hammers have agreed a deal in principle to sign Soler on a season-long loan but will be obligated to make the transfer permanent next summer.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, West Ham will have to pay around £20 million to sign him permanently at the end of next season.

Soler is expected to travel to London later today to undergo his medical before putting pen to paper on a deal. Everton tried to hijack the deal at the last minute but Soler will join West Ham, with the club covering his salary.

West Ham have signed as many as nine new players this summer, and Soler is on the cusp of becoming the latest addition to Julen Lopetegui’s squad.

Soler has been heavily linked with a move to the London Stadium throughout the transfer window, but there were reports that the club needed to offload players before making a move for the Spanish midfielder.

A loan move has been agreed, but he will join the club as a like-for-like replacement for James Ward-Prowse, who is set to join Nottingham Forest.

Soler will replace Ward-Prowse

According to Romano, West Ham have agreed a deal for Ward-Prowse to join Forest on a season-long loan, and Soler will replace the England international at the London Stadium.

Ward-Prowse only joined the Hammers last summer in a deal worth around £30m from Southampton, but his fortunes have taken a sharp turn just 12 months later.

The free-kick specialist made 49 appearances across all competitions last season, returning seven goals and 11 assists.

West Ham weren’t actively seeking a deal, but the player is not in Lopetegui’s long-term plans, especially after the club’s summer spending spree.

Ward-Prowse has only played just over a quarter-hour of Premier League football for the Hammers this season and will be plying his trade at the City Ground for the remainder of the season.
