West Ham could replace Nuno Espirito Santo after a 3-0 defeat at Wolves, talkSPORT reports, with pressure mounting in the relegation fight.

The result extended their winless run to nine, left them 18th, four points from safety and seven behind Leeds. The Whites could move as many as 10 points clear if they win their game in hand at home to Manchester United today.

Espirito Santo was appointed at the end of September to replace Graham Potter, but results have deteriorated since. After the defeat he apologised to the travelling supporters, said he felt as bad as he ever has on a pitch, called the first half embarrassing and described it as their worst display.

Some at the club are said to be puzzled by his reluctance to start a recognised centre-forward, with Jarrod Bowen often used through the middle. West Ham have paid about £21 million for striker Pablo Felipe from Gil Vicente this week, although he is not viewed as an instant fix. An agreement worth £25 million for Lazio’s Taty Castellanos is reportedly on hold amid the uncertainty.

West Ham face 17th-placed Nottingham Forest on Tuesday in a crucial bottom-of-the-table meeting. Defeat could trigger a decision on Espirito Santo, who is believed to have driven the move for Felipe. Slaven Bilic and former West Ham and Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick are among potential candidates, and any change would make it the club’s third manager of the season.
