Crystal Palace were held to a goalless draw by West Ham United in the Premier League at Selhurst Park on Monday evening.

The hosts made a bright start and were almost rewarded with the opener five minutes into the game when Jorgen Strand Larsen met Tyrick Mitchell’s low cross, but his effort flew wide before Valentin Castellanos fired over at the other end.

Moments later, Brennan Johnson had a golden chance to open the scoring from Jefferson Lerma’s cross, but he failed to connect, and the ball drifted wide before the Welshman curled another effort just past the post minutes later.

In the 41st minute, Dean Henderson flapped at a header and gifted Castellanos a chance from close range, but Maxence Lacroix produced a crucial goal-line block to deny his acrobatic effort.

On the stroke of half-time, Konstantinos Mavropanos came close to opening the scoring after he met El Hadji Malick Diouf’s cross, but Henderson kept out his header before Mitchell dragged his effort wide of the far post at the other end.

Just past the hour mark, Daichi Kamada found Lerma with a free-kick, but the Colombian’s header was comfortably gathered by Mads Hermansen.

In the 83rd minute, Ismaila Sarr thought he had broken the deadlock when Mitchell’s delivery led to a scramble, as Axel Disasi made initial contact and the ball dropped to him off Jean-Philippe Mateta, only for the goal to be disallowed for handball against Mateta.

Palace dominated the closing stages of the game, but the Hammers held on to secure a crucial point in their quest for survival.

West Ham’s draw this evening confirmed Wolves’ relegation from the Premier League, leaving Rob Edwards’ side 16 points adrift of safety with just five games remaining.
