Hammers show their ambition with major statement ahead of Premier League return bid
Jarrod Bowen has committed his future to West Ham ahead of next season in a major boost to Nuno Espirito Santo as his side prepare for life in the Championship.
The Hammers captain has signed a revised contract, which will ensure he stays at the club to help them try to win promotion back to the Premier League next term.
Bowen, who joined West Ham from Hull in January 2020, signed a seven-year contract in 2023, which runs until the summer of 2030.
The 29-year-old’s new deal does not extend beyond 2030, but guarantees that Bowen will remain at West Ham for the 2026/27 season.
Bowen, who missed out on selection for England’s World Cup squad, had plenty of transfer interest this summer, with Aston Villa and Everton both keen to strike a deal for the winger.
West Ham, though, were determined to keep hold of Bowen during a window in which they have already lost Mateus Fernandes to rivals Tottenham for £85million and are looking to ward off advances for winger Crysencio Summerville.
Talking about his decision to stay, Bowen said he was impressed by the vision laid out to him by incoming majority owner Daniel Kretinsky and board member Jiri Svarc.
“For me, it was only right to speak when the time’s right in circumstances like this, then it’s back to talking about football,” Bowen said.
“I flew out to Prague in the Czech Republic to meet Daniel and Jiri, and the ambition that I got from them, certainly in terms of the direction the Club wants to move in, it interests me a lot.
“It didn’t take a lot for me, because this Club means a lot to me.
“I did an interview after the (Leeds United) game and said my vision is to get this Club back in the Premier League.
“Sometimes you think it falls on deaf ears and people say ‘he’s just saying that’. There have been things written and different things said and you have to look at it and bite your tongue sometimes.
“But when I say something, I don’t hide away from it.
“For me, the main thing is to get this Club back into the Premier League and speak to people in the Club about what we want to do moving forward as a Club for the better of the Club.
“It was a no-brainer for me to be here, and the vision is clear, it’s the Premier League.”
