Flamengo’s bid to bring Lucas Paquetá back has advanced, but West Ham want any sale to include a loan-back until the end of the Premier League season, according to The Guardian.
The 28-year-old told head coach Nuno Espírito Santo on Wednesday that he wants to return to Brazil. West Ham now accept a sale but view him as crucial while fighting relegation.
Flamengo do not view the arrangement favourably and will try to secure flexibility in a meeting on Friday.
Financially, the clubs are closer. Talks are expected around 40 million euros, about R$ 250 million, well below the 60 million euros, roughly R$ 375 million, previously discussed as an initial ask.
Paquetá’s preference is Flamengo’s biggest card in these talks. The board had held off a formal bid, awaiting the player’s efforts to soften West Ham, and an offer could follow.
Flamengo are unlikely to stretch much on fee, but could move on timing. The Brazilian window closes on three March, yet the club want him quickly with the Carioca, the Supercopa and the Recopa Sul-Americana on the horizon.
