West Ham United are considering appointing a new director of football, according to ExWHUemployee.
The reliable Hammers insider claimed on the West Ham Way Patreon this afternoon that the club wants a replacement for the first time since Tim Steidten left.
However, West Ham are waiting until the end of the season before making a concrete move, given the uncertainty over their Premier League status.
Former Hammers manager Graham Potter brought in Kyle Macauley as head of recruitment, but he is now the head of scouting at Manchester United.
West Ham have held a sporting advisory meeting and confirmed they want to appoint a new director of football for next season.
They are currently 18th in the Premier League table but will fancy their chances of staying up as only a point separates them from 16th-place Tottenham Hotspur ahead of their final nine games.
It is unclear whether West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo will have a say on who is appointed as the next director of football, or if David Sullivan and Karren Brady will make the decision.
However, Nuno’s future at the club is also dependent on which division the Hammers are in next season.
They need to recruit a director of football who can help turn their fortunes around.
West Ham want to compete for the major trophies and play European football regularly, but they need a capable squad and do not necessarily need to splash the cash to sign quality players.
