West Ham United are in talks to sign former Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson, according to the Sun.

The ‘incredible’ West Ham and Leeds United target is a free agent after leaving St James’ Park at the end of last season.

The Hammers are long-term admirers of the 33-year-old, once dubbed a ‘huge player’ by Magpies manager Eddie Howe.

Talks are being held over an incentivised contract as they look to bolster their attacking options this summer.

West Ham manager Graham Potter wants a new striker after both Danny Ings and Michail Antonio were released at the end of last season, and the former Magpies star has caught his eye.

While his injury record remains worrying, Wilson brings quality Premier League experience to the table.

The deal the Hammers are offering him would involve an agreement where his wages are directly tied to the number of games he plays, rather than a fixed salary.

He wants to continue playing in the top-flight, and Everton are also keen. However, West Ham will hope they can beat other clubs in the race to sign him.

Wilson notched 18 league goals and five assists in 31 games in 2022-23. Injuries and a lack of opportunities restricted him to nine goals in 20 league games the following season.

He will fancy his chances of delivering at West Ham if he can manage to stay fit.

The Hammers have added 19-year-old Scotland youth international striker Daniel Cummings to their ranks this summer, but they need an experienced figure in the position.

Signing the former Bournemouth star for free and on an incentivised contract could be a shrewd move.
