West Ham United are interested in recruiting the services of Sheffield United goalkeeper Michael Cooper this summer, according to the Sun.

West Ham released Lukasz Fabianski at the end of last term after seven seasons at the London Stadium club, and manager Graham Potter could look to sign a replacement after Alphonse Areola failed to impress at times last term.

The Frenchman struggled to cover himself in glory at times, and he also made a costly mistake against Manchester United in the Premier League Summer Series clash in the early hours of today, giving away the penalty that allowed the Red Devils to take the lead.

The Hammers could now go for Cooper and will make final checks on the 25-year-old in the coming weeks after his impressive campaign with the Championship club.

The ‘really tidy’ goalie kept 21 clean sheets in 43 games for the Blades, achieving a save percentage of 76.9%, and West Ham need such an impressive man in goal.

Cooper narrowly missed out on Premier League promotion at the end of last season after his side lost to Sunderland in the Championship play-off final, and the opportunity to move to the London club this summer could be very appealing to him.

He could cost around £15 million, but that will not be an issue for the Irons and it could be up to the new first-team goalkeeper coach Linus Kandolin to make a decision having now worked briefly with Areola and others.

West Ham also have Wes Foderingham and Krisztian Hegyi as options in goal, but the latter is expected to leave on loan again.

The Hammers shipped 62 league goals last term, finishing 14th in the league table, and they need more quality additions after signing Jean-Clair Todibo permanently and recruiting the services of defensive duo El Hadji Malick Diouf and Kyle Walker-Peters.
