West Ham United are weighing up a move for Everton winger Dwight McNeil as they continue to look for cheap reinforcements this summer.
According to ExWHUEmployee, the Hammers have identified the 26-year-old as a potential transfer target.
However, any deal is likely to hinge on whether the player is prepared to drop into the Championship with West Ham.
While his most recent campaign was underwhelming, producing just one assist in 22 league outings, McNeil is a very experienced wide player.
He has more than 250 top-flight appearances to his name and would be a good pick-up for the Hammers considering their circumstances.
West Ham value that experience as they look to assemble a squad capable of challenging for an immediate return to the Premier League.
With the ‘fantastic‘ McNeil entering the final year of his contract, the Hammers could sign him for a relatively modest fee.
Despite his disappointing attacking numbers last season, McNeil offers qualities that do not always show up on the scoresheet.
His devastating left foot, delivery from wide areas and tireless work rate have made him a dependable performer throughout his Premier League career.
If Crysencio Summerville leaves the London Stadium this summer, McNeil would be a sensible replacement.
The Dutchman brings flair and explosive dribbling, whereas McNeil offers consistency, intelligent movement and proven experience against elite opposition.
His tendency to stay wide on the left and whip crosses would also provide a natural balance alongside Jarrod Bowen, who prefers to drift inside from the right onto his stronger foot.
He may not be the marquee signing West Ham supporters dream of, but McNeil could prove to be one of their most sensible signings this summer,
