West Ham United forward Shekiera Martinez has been called up to the Germany senior squad for the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 qualifiers against Austria. The 19-year-old has now received a fourth senior call-up after continuing her strong first season in the Women’s Super League, where she has scored 10 goals in all competitions for the Hammers.

Martinez started for Germany in their 5-0 win over Slovenia during the last international window, a further step on quickly from her senior debut after progressing through the national youth pathway. Her form for West Ham has plainly helped keep her in the picture, and it is another reminder of the league’s depth after recent international recognition for players such as Erica Meg Parkinson and Poppy Pattinson.

Germany have opened their UEFA qualifying campaign strongly, beating both Slovenia and Norway to move top of Group A4. Martinez now heads into an April double-header with Austria knowing Germany can tighten their grip on automatic qualification for Brazil 2027 if they keep that momentum going.

The first meeting with Austria is set for Nuremberg’s Max-Morlock-Stadion on 14 April at 5.15pm BST, before the return game in Ried im Innkreis on 18 April at 5pm BST. Austria include West Ham defender Verena Hanshaw, while Martinez’s club team-mate Eva Nyström has also been in the international conversation recently, as seen in West Ham’s latest team news around Nyström.

Shekiera Martinez: one of the proudest moments of my career

Speaking previously after her breakthrough into the senior international set-up, Martinez made clear what the step meant to her. As reported via West Ham United, she described that first call as “one of the proudest moments of my career.”

That feeling has quickly turned into a genuine place in the squad. Germany have already trusted her with a first senior start, and this latest selection suggests she remains a live option as the group begins to take shape through qualifying.

What Martinez brings

Martinez gives Germany a direct, mobile attacking option who arrives in the squad in good scoring form. She has led the line well for West Ham this season, showing sharp movement in the box and a willingness to run beyond defenders, which makes her an interesting fit in games where Germany expect to dominate territory but still need penetration.

Germany’s upcoming qualifiers

Tuesday 14 April: Germany v Austria, Max-Morlock-Stadion, Nuremberg, 5.15pm BST.

Saturday 18 April: Austria v Germany, Josko Arena, Ried im Innkreis, 5pm BST.

Under the qualifying format outlined by UEFA, the group winners qualify directly for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027, while the other sides move into the play-off route. Germany’s early wins have put them in a strong position, and Martinez now has another chance to add to her three senior caps.
