The 69th edition of the Ballon d'Or saw Guinean international Serhou Guirassy (29 years old) among the thirty finalists.
Despite his 21st place in the final ranking , the Borussia Dortmund striker sees this nomination as a true tribute to his relentless work throughout the past season. In an interview with L’Équipe, he explained:"It's not about being 21st or whatever. The fact that I’m here is a source of pride for me, because my work has been recognized. Whether it's 21st, 30th, or 3rd, in any case, you don't get a trophy. The important thing is that the work is recognized."
Guirassy delivered a sensational 2024-2025 season with the "Schwarzgelben," scoring 38 goals and providing 9 assists in 50 matches across all competitions. He also made his mark in the Champions League, finishing among the tournament’s top scorers with 13 goals, tied with Raphinha, the FC Barcelona star—a testament to his immense impact on the team. It’s worth noting that the spotlight wasn’t limited to Guinean Serhou Guirassy: other African stars also shone, including Mohamed Salah, who finished fourth, and Achraf Hakimi, who took sixth place in the rankings.
