An insight into the incoming sanction awaiting Barcelona star Wojciech Szczęsny has on Monday come to the fore online.

Goalkeeper Szczęsny, of course, played his part last night, as Barcelona put arch rivals Real Madrid to the sword in the finale of the Spanish Super Cup.

After impressing in the competition’s semi-finals against Athletic Club, the Pole was in from the off once more in Jeddah.

En route to the Blaugrana’s eventual 5-2 triumph, however, Szczęsny was sent for an early bath during the 2nd-half.

Inside the hour mark, the former Arsenal and Juventus man was responsible for a last-man foul on Kylian Mbappé which, after a VAR review, was deemed as worthy of a straight red card.

So, what kind of ban is Szczęsny facing up to?

Until recently, the sanction would have been put in place for the next edition of the Supercopa, a competition in which the shot-stopper has no guarantees of even playing in.

The updates rules, as per Mundo Deportivo, however, dictate that the player to have been sent off must sit out his side’s next domestic fixture.

Szczęsny, as a result, will not be available to boss Hansi Flick for Barcelona’s Copa del Rey meeting with Real Betis on Wednesday night.

He will, though, be eligible to face Getafe in La Liga at the weekend.
