Leeds United mounted a 4-2 comeback against Liverpool in Chicago in the Premier League Summer Series, but Gabi Gudmundsson’s early exit clouded the night.

After a 3-2 defeat to Wrexham and a 1-0 win over Sunderland, Daniel Farke’s side ended their Summer Series against Liverpool at Soldier Field. The Reds controlled the first half, with Luke Chambers and Florian Wirtz putting them 2-0 up at the break.

Farke introduced Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Harry Wilson and Brenden Aaronson at half-time, and the game flipped. Calvert-Lewin struck twice, Aaronson scored and assisted, and new signing Wilson added the missing flair.

Gudmundsson went down inside two minutes, appeared to run it off, then was withdrawn around the half-hour. Sebastiaan Bornauw replaced him, prompting James Justin to switch from the right of a back three to left wing-back.

Leedsunited.news notes that he was forced off with an apparent hamstring problem, with three weeks until the Premier League opener and full-back cover already an area of focus.

Leeds go to Forest on the opening weekend. That fixture ended 3-1 in defeat, when left-back was an issue, Jack Harrison deputised and Gudmundsson conceded a penalty. With Gudmundsson likely to miss the rest of pre-season, Leeds will need a new left-back and it is too early to throw Jayden Lienou in at the deep end.
