FLW's Charlton fan pundit has given his say on Miles Leaburn's transfer value
Miles Leaburn showed a lot of promise for Charlton Athletic when he first broke into the first team squad from the academy system.
The 21-year-old played 35 times in his first season at senior level for the Addicks, including 18 starts, at the age of just 19.
He contributed an impressive 12 goals and two assists, with the team coming 10th in the table.
However, injuries have hampered his development, and he’s played a total of 49 times in the league in the two-and-a-bit years since, including nine times in the Championship in the current campaign.
FLW’s Charlton fan pundit Sam White recently tipped the forward to exit the Valley if an offer of around £1-2 million came in for him in either January or next summer.
Here we take a look at whether Leaburn is valued at the aforementioned fee, using figures taken from Transfermarkt…
Leaburn has played in each of Charlton’s opening nine games of the new Championship season, having helped them gain promotion in the previous year.
However, only two of those appearances have come as starts, and he is yet to register a single goal or assist.
There are concerns over whether he will be a key figure in Nathan Jones’ side going forward.
The 21-year-old signed a new contract with Charlton in the summer, extending his stay at the Valley until 2028, but he could depart sooner if a reasonable offer comes in.
While the £1-2 million range has been cited as a possible valuation for Leaburn, it has been claimed by Transfermarkt that his current worth is €700,000 (£608,000).
This is down from his peak value, which reached €900,000 (£780,000) in the summer of 2023 after his breakout year with Charlton in League One.
His valuation is back on the rise after the Addicks earned promotion to the Championship, as it fell to €500,000 (£430,000) in 2024, with injuries beginning to hurt his level of game time in the side.
Charlton are in a strong position when it comes to Leaburn’s future at the club as his new contract now runs until 2028.
If interest does arise in him over January or next summer, then his real market value should be well protected, as the Addicks won’t be in any rush to cash in if their asking price isn’t met.
This should allow them to earn up to £1 million — maybe even two — for him, as opposed to the £600,000 or so that he is currently valued at.
Leaburn hasn’t set the world on fire in the Championship, but he’s still proven that he can be a useful player at this level.
Given he is only about to turn 22, there is every chance that a run of positive fitness could give him the opportunity to develop into a player that can compete in the second tier.
