Jobe Bellingham has been linked with a move away from Sunderland this summer

Ben Jacobs has claimed that Jude Bellingham’s advice to Jobe Bellingham over his Sunderland future is to be patient with his development as a player.

The midfielder has earned a lot of praise and attention for his performances in Régis Le Bris' side in the Championship this season.

This has also led to speculation over his future, with Teamtalk reporting last week that there are as many as six Premier League sides keen on a move this summer, including Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

Bellingham has a contract with Sunderland until the summer of 2028, meaning the club will be in no rush to cash in on the player this year unless their valuation is met.

Jacobs has reported that the older Bellingham brother has advised the 19-year-old to be patient with his development, citing Jude’s own wait before jumping in to a club like Real Madrid.

The journalist named Crystal Palace and Brentford as other potential suitors, but claimed the Sunderland star could be willing to wait on a switch to the top flight.

"There is Premier League interest in Jobe Bellingham,” said Jacobs, via GiveMeSport.

“Crystal Palace have already tried once, and they remain an active suitor.

“And Brentford are interested in Jobe Bellingham too, but it's a little bit too early to tell whether or not he's going to leave this summer, simply because, after he signed the new deal at Sunderland, contracting him until 2028, Jobe Bellingham was very keen not to rush his development.

“And actually, Jude Bellingham, his brother, made that point to him.

“And what we saw in the progression of Jude Bellingham was a very slow and meticulous decision-making process to make sure that he didn't move too big too soon, and that for Jude Bellingham paid off."

Bellingham has made 34 league appearances for Sunderland this season, with the team fourth in the Championship table.

Bellingham has time on his side

Bellingham’s development has benefitted greatly from his move to Sunderland in 2023, with the midfielder going from strength to strength with each week.

There is no doubt that he will be playing Premier League football sooner rather than later, so he doesn’t need to rush into a move this summer.

Of course, Sunderland could yet gain promotion themselves, in which case staying would be by far the most sensible option.

But even waiting another year in the Championship might prove very beneficial if he wouldn’t be immediately guaranteed regular game time at his next potential club.
