What next? Corinthians' next steps in Sul-Americana basketball

On the evening of this Sunday, the 26th, Corinthians achieved an exciting qualification in the South American Basketball League (LSB) by defeating Quimsa from Argentina, 100 x 96, at the Wlamir Marques Gymnasium. The result allowed Timão to finish Group C in second place, just behind Defensor from Uruguay – both were ahead of the Argentinians in the basket difference of direct confrontations, after a triple tie in points.

However, the Alvinegro will have to wait to know their next steps in the competition, as the first phase is not yet over. Three groups have already completed their matches, qualifying for the second phase Jorge Guzmán (Ecuador) and Olimpia (Paraguay) in Group A, Ferro Carril Oeste (Argentina) and Universidad Sucre (Bolivia) in Group B, and Corinthians and Defensor (Uruguay) in Group C.

Group D still has its matches to be played. Hosted in Paraguay, the group includes Deportivo San José (Paraguay), Regatas (Argentina), Leones Quilpue (Chile), and Pinheiros. The games will be held this week, between next Monday and Wednesday, the 27th to the 29th respectively.

The eight qualified teams will then compete in the second phase of the LSB, again divided into groups. In Group E, the teams from groups A and B of the first phase (Jorge Guzmán, Olimpia, Ferro Carril Oeste, and Universidad Sucre) will be gathered, while in Group F, the teams from groups C and D (Corinthians, Defensor, and two more clubs to be determined) will be gathered. The two qualified from each group will go to the Final 4, played in a knockout format.

With this, Corinthians will return to action in the continental competition only in November, when they will compete for one of the spots in the fight for the LSB title, which is expected to end on December 7th. In their last participation in the tournament, the People's Team finished as runners-up, after being defeated by Botafogo in the grand final by two games to one.
