Tuesday morning saw the Bayern Munich players ready to depart for the USA and the Club World Cup. However, there was one person missing – manager Vincent Kompany.
Kompany eventually arrived half an hour after his players, coming to the airport with physical coach Bram Geers and another member of the club’s staff. Kompany immediately gave a reason for his delay. He had injured himself in the last training before departure! “Really,” he laughed to the German press present.
The fact that Kompany injured himself in training is not necessarily a surprise. The former Belgium and Manchester City defender has a history of injuries and regularly trains with the Bayern selection himself (perhaps a little too readily), in order to transfer his experience to the group.
The seriousness of Kompany’s injury does not seem to be that bad. According to Bild, he arrived at the airport with a smile and without a limp.
With Kompany finally on board, Bayern left Franz Josef Strauss Airport for Orlando in the United States at 13:37 on Tuesday. The internationals who have been in action in recent days did not board the flight. They will arrive steadily as the week goes by to rest after their international period.
