Tom Brady's involvement at Birmingham City becomes a little clearer thanks to Marvin Ducksch's latest comments
Birmingham City summer signing Marvin Ducksch has revealed the role Tom Brady played in convincing him to join the club.
It was reported that the 31-year-old made the switch from Werder Bremen in a deal worth €2 (£1.7) million, signing a three-year contract.
He was one of nine permanent additions to Chris Davies’ side following their promotion from League One, bolstering their attacking options for life in the Championship.
The German scored 32 goals from 99 appearances in the Bundesliga over the last three seasons, playing a key role in Werder Bremen re-establishing themselves at that level.
Ducksch has so far played in three of Birmingham’s opening nine fixtures, and is yet to register a goal or an assist.
Ducksch has revealed that he spoke with Brady during his medical, which helped to convince him that this move was the right decision at this stage of his career.
He’s claimed that he was inspired by the former American football player, who he considers the greatest to ever do it in that sport.
“When I arrived for the medical examination and to sign the contract, they handed me the phone and I was allowed to talk to Tom Brady,” said Ducksch, via Fussball Transfers.
“That inspired me even more to talk to the GOAT in person.
“That's when I knew for sure that I had made the right decision.”
Brady became an investor in Birmingham in 2023, and he owns 3.3 per cent of the Championship side.
While he is not a major decision maker at St. Andrew’s, he has become a high profile figure that has often been spotted attending games.
The American was the focal point of the Amazon Prime docu-series Built in Birmingham: Brady & the Blues, which released earlier this year ahead of the new season.
Brady will be keen to see Ducksch hit his best form in the coming months, with the Midlands outfit setting their sights on promotion again, as they aim for life back in the Premier League.
Brady’s profile as an athlete in America makes him a very obvious focal point for the club’s ownership structure.
While he’s not a major decision maker, his continued involvement helps gain attention and the experience he brings as a former pro will be useful in situations like this with prospective and current players.
It’s likely Birmingham were going to make this move regardless of Brady’s phone call, but also that conversation still would’ve helped him settle in England a bit easier, showing the positive influence he can have at the club.
