The Sky Blues boss has deservedly been honoured for his team's start to the season, but some City fans aren't celebrating.

Coventry City have completed a Championship awards sweep, with head coach Frank Lampard and forward Brandon Thomas-Asante crowned Manager and Player of the Month for October, but some Sky Blues fans aren't celebrating.

Was it ever going to be anyone other than Lampard or Thomas-Asante collecting those respective awards for October?

Indeed, Coventry City won five of their six games last month, with their only defeat of the season coming against Wrexham on the final day of the month.

Meanwhile, Thomas-Asante hit six goals and provided one assist in October, and is sitting at the top of the scoring charts in the division, very much like his team are.

Coventry City fans fearing dreaded 'Manager of the Month curse' after Frank Lampard collects October prize

Football supporters are many things, but a tendency to be highly superstitious is among the more commonly seen trait.

Indeed, whether it's ordering a particular pie from a particular van because their team won 4-0 the first time they did it, parking up in a particular spot every matchday, or the classic lucky shirt; football fans are brilliantly unique folk.

However, one of the real fears of any superstitious supporter is the dreaded 'Manager of the Month curse', which has been known to strike down winning runs, derail seasons and thieve away ability from coaches and players alike.

Supporters often see it as on omen of footballing misfortune for their side, and with Coventry City going great guns in the Championship this season, many Sky Blues fans are now hoping that their team won't be victims of it.

Responding to a post on Coventry's official X account announcing their award-winning duo, there's evidently a fear factor among fans that they will be afflicted by the curse.

"Manager of the month curse is back," wrote one curse-fearing Coventry supporter.

"Quick, play a friendly before the game against WBA (West Bromwich Albion). Get the curse out of the way," joked another.

"It's much deserved, but it does come with a curse which is another obstacle for Frank to overcome," said another.

"Well there goes promotion, then," penned another worried City supporter.

There was a couple of Coventry fans that weren't running in fear of the curse though, as one supporter said: "C'mon guys positivity!!! Frank's not gonna get us promotion without getting MOTM at some point. We beat Swansea away and Preston last season, remember? WE'RE BEATING THE HOODOOS!!"

Meanwhile, one Coventry fan appears confident his side have broken the curse, saying: "Curse negated if you win both (MOTM and POTM), everyone knows that."

Coventry City have gauntlet of Championship fixtures awaiting them - curse could have fertile ground

Coventry City can only beat what's been put in front of them, as can any team for that matter, and other than a Halloween night in Wrexham they'll want to forget, that's exactly what they've been doing to pretty much every side they've faced.

However, cynics will say that whilst the Sky Blues are top of the table on merit, they haven't as of yet beaten too many of the promotion contenders this season, with their wins coming against: Derby, QPR, Birmingham, Millwall, Sheffield Wednesday, Blackburn, Portsmouth, Watford, Sheffield United and Stoke City respectively.

But, any doubts over just how good Coventry are, and indeed whether the Manager of the Month curse is real, will be blown away if the Sky Blues power through their upcoming stretch of Championship clashes.

Lampard's boys return from the international break with a Midlands derby at home to West Brom, before taking on: Middlesbrough (A), Charlton (H), Ipswich (A), Preston (A), Bristol City (H), Southampton (A), Swansea City (H) and Ipswich (H) to round out 2025.

Five of those eight teams are currently residing in the top half of the Championship, rivalry games are never straightforward, and there's every chance Southampton's talented team of players could've clicked into gear by the time they meet on 20 December.

So, Coventry have got a tough festive period in store, but it's one that should be met with great excitement as opposed to fear, as should they be welcoming in the new year still at the summit of the Championship, then everyone will know that the Sky Blues are for real this term.
