Manchester United have agreed a deal with RB Leipzig for Benjamin Sesko, with the Slovenian becoming the third signing of this summer.
But INEOS are not done yet as it seems, with reports linking the Red Devils with a sensational late swoop for Brighton and Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba.
The Seagulls have made it pretty clear that they would prefer not to sell, but the midfielder has not closed the doors to a switch.
That kept the rumour mill churning all day, but ESPN have some bad news on this front. They have not only revealed Brighton’s new asking price, but the timeline of when this move can realistically materialise.
As per journalist Julien Laurens, Fabian Hürzeler’s side will demand €120 million to part ways with the 21-year-old, a British transfer record.
Not only that but the Cameroonian will not agitate for a move away this summer, and will be happy to stay at the Amex Stadium for the current season.
It is likely that he leaves next summer. But whether the Red Devils will return then remains to be seen. Brighton will not be too scared as they are aware of Pep Guardiola’s interest in the ex-Lille ace.
“Brighton have set an asking price of €120 million for clubs wanting to pursue a deal for Carlos Baleba, sources have told ESPN.
“The midfielder has attracted interest from Manchester United and Manchester City. Pep Guardiola has been a longtime admirer of the Cameroon midfielder, while Ruben Amorim is also a fan of the 21-year-old.
“United have not made contact with Brighton, sources have told ESPN, and any deal would be made more difficult if they complete a move for Benjamin Sesko.
“Sources have told ESPN that Baleba is happy to stay at the Amex this summer, with a move considered more likely in a year’s time.”
Brighton are known to squeeze every last drop out of a deal, which is why it is more likely United return with all guns blazing next summer.
Following the Sesko deal, INEOS are likely to focus on outgoings, with Chelsea in talks with the club over a move for Alejandro Garnacho, while Jadon Sancho is receiving interest from Italy.
Who knows, a couple of blockbuster sales could yet get the ball rolling. But it is more likely that a midfielder gets brought in on loan or for a small fee. Douglas Luiz of Juventus fits the bill.
