It is 14 years since Wolves were last relegated from the Premier League, finishing bottom in 2012 and sliding to League One a year later. A repeat now seems unlikely. They responded by winning the third tier at the first attempt, with three forwards sharing the goals.

ExpressAndStar.com looks at what became of that promotion trio.

Sako arrived from Saint-Étienne for £2.2m. He scored nine league goals as Wolves dropped again, then hit 12 in promotion and 15 the next season before leaving for Crystal Palace on a free. Now 37, he sits 29th on the club’s scorers list with 38 after spells at West Brom, Saint-Étienne, FC 93 and LB Châteauroux.

Dicko first came on loan in the relegation year. A £300,000 permanent deal brought 13 league goals in the title run, but injuries sidelined him for over 12 months. He left for Hull in 2017, later moving to Türkiye, Greece and Paris FC, and at 33 plays in Saudi Arabia after signing for Pro League side Al Bataeh in February, ranking 32nd for Wolves with 35.

Griffiths signed in 2011 for £150,000, barely featuring across two Premier League seasons and one Championship campaign, instead scoring 33 in 61 on loan at Hibernian. A 2013 extension preceded 12 League One goals before a January switch to Celtic, where he scored 123 in 261. He then joined Falkirk, moved to semi-professional Mandurah City in 2022 and Stirling Macedonia in 2025, adding coaching duties.
