There will be 16 Barcelona players taking to the pitch for their respective countries at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which gets underway in the United States, Mexico and Canada this month.

Barça say that the figure shows that they “have a great squad”, with half of the players selected set to represent Spain. There will also be Barcelona representatives in the England, Brazil, France, Netherlands, Uruguay, Portugal and Egyptian teams this summer.

Spain – 8 players

Luis de la Fuente’s squad announcement sent shockwaves across the football world when he revealed that, for the first time ever, there would be no current Real Madrid players included in a Spanish squad at the FIFA World Cup.

The 64-year-old has placed his trust in eight Barcelona players, though.

Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres are set to lead the line, while Dani Olmo, Pedri and Gavi are included in a talented pool of midfielders. Pau Cubarsí and Eric Garcia offer defensive stability, while Joan Garcia will look to make the spot between the sticks his own.

England – 2 players

Barcelona will have two representatives in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the FIFA World Cup, with forwards Marcus Rashford and Anthony Gordon both included.

Gordon, who is included in a World Cup squad for the first time, signed for Barça last week on a deal running through to 2031, and impressed fans when he spoke in both Spanish and Catalan at his official unveiling.

Brazil – 1 player

There is just one Barça player included in Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad, and it’s the talismanic Raphinha.

It’ll be his second appearance at the World Cup, having made five appearances in 2022 shortly after signing from Leeds United.

Brazil are in Group C at this summer’s tournament, and will face Scotland in their third group stage match.

France – 1 player

Didier Deschamps has included Jules Koundé in France’s final squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 27-year-old reached the final with Les Bleus in Qatar four years ago and will be looking to go one step further after a solid season with Barça, having made 46 appearances for Hansi Flick’s men throughout the campaign.

France face Senegal, Iraq and Norway in Group I at this summer’s tournament.

Netherlands – 1 player

Frenkie de Jong is included in the Dutch squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, coached by former Barça boss Ronald Koeman.

It’ll be the midfielder’s second World Cup tournament, having debuted in 2022 as the Netherlands reached the quarterfinals where they were knocked out on penalties by the eventual winners, Argentina.

De Jong made five appearances and scored one goal in Qatar four years ago.

Uruguay – 1 player

Ronald Araújo makes Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The defender was included in Uruguay’s squad four years ago but didn’t play, having arrived in Qatar with an injury.

He’ll be coming up against some familiar faces in Group H, with Uruguay set to take on Saudi Arabia, Cape Verde and Spain.

Portugal – 1 player

João Cancelo is at Barcelona on loan from Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League, and his performances with the Blaugrana have earned him a place in Portugal’s FIFA World Cup squad.

The defender also featured in the 2022 World Cup, helping Portugal to reach the quarter-finals where they were eventually knocked out by Morocco.

Egypt – 1 player

Hamza Abdelkarim plays his club football for Barcelona’s youth team, but his performances have caught the eye of Egypt’s head coach, Hossam Hassan.

18-year-old Abdelkarim is on loan at Barcelona from Al Ahly and was something of a shock inclusion in Egypt’s 2026 FIFA World Cup squad, having never played a game for the senior national team before.

But if his debut performance for Barça – in which he scored three headers in just 15 minutes – is anything to go by, he could play a crucial role as the Pharaohs look to escape from Group G.
