But Liverpool have made the most advances in a deal for Wright and are looking to strike an agreement with Salford in order to secure the services of the 17-year-old.

Wright made his debut for the first team at just 16-years-old last season becoming one of the youngest players ever to debut for Salford in the club's history.

During the course of last season, he scored over 40-goals at academy level and even made an appearance against Manchester City in the FA Cup.

Wright made 4 appearances in total at first team level and he's now spending pre-season with Salford as well, where he has caught the eye over the course of last week.

During the last seven days, Salford played three games, and Wright netted in every single one for the first team, scoring four goals in his three appearances.

What kind of player is Will Wright?

That's a sign of just how special of a player Wright is. Already, he's quite strong and quick for his age. Standing at 1.90 metres, there are shades of Harry Kane and Erling Haaland about him.

Wright is an excellent pressing machine, capable of forcing his opponents to concede the ball. He's also a really intelligent runner with the ball, with the ability to drop deep and progress the ball for his team or hold it up when needed.

In summary, he's got the ability to be a complete centre-forward - a typical modern day no.9.

Inside the box, he's capable of a range of finishes, and finding space for himself to get a shot on goal. He can strike the ball from long-distance as well, which makes him a goalkeeper's nightmare because it's impossible to predict what he's going to do.

This is why Liverpool are keen on signing the young man. It's clear that the club's academy needs reinforcements and the Reds have always been determined to bring in talented players at Wright's age group.

Over the course of the last few seasons, the likes of Rio Ngumoha, Bobby Clark, Ben Doak, Trey Nyoni and Harvey Elliott have been recruited at similar ages.

It's expected Wright would follow a similar pathway, initially joining the club's U21 team where he would play under newly appointed Rob Page, whose responsibility will be to develop him and help him bridge the gap between the academy and the first team.

Liverpool are in need of a striker of Wright's ilk. In years to come, he's got the makings of the perfect archetypal Slot forward.
