“Who was at centre back?” – Jamie Carragher spot on with Chelsea verdict this week

It’s not often I will say Jamie Carragher is spot on, but this week, Jamie Carragher is ABSOLUTELY spot on I’m afraid!

To be honest, I’ve found myself actually agreeing with a lot of the things Carragher has said about Chelsea in the last couple of years. Not all of it, by far not all of it. But a lot of the things he has said on this apparent Chelsea project has been absolutely bang on in my opinion. Of course, everyone else is welcome to their own views, and I’ll always respect that. But for me, what Carragher is saying below is spot on.

Sources: Chelsea hold positive talks to sign Jeremy Jacquet and close on fee agreement!

I’d watch the full clip on Sky Sports as well, but we have some snippets of the quotes Carragher said on Monday Night Football this week regarding Chelsea’s young team.

Carragher basically says that clubs must have senior figures in the squad when integrating young players:

“This idea that you are going to get a whole team of young talents and they’ll grow over 3-4, years, football doesn’t work like that. Man United didn’t win with kids, they had older players around them that got them through. Chelsea won the Champions League in 2021, who was the centre back? Thiago Silva, he was 37/38 wasn’t he?”

This is spot on

Honestly for me, this just makes so much sense and it’s just smart. It’s wise. Sign a bunch of young players and develop them, fine. But do it with balance. Do it alongside some experienced players who can help the young players on the pitch, like United did; the example Carragher is giving from that golden era in the 90s for them.

Honestly, it almost just makes too much sense. It’s madness.
