What we experienced this Sunday with Chivas Femenil is one of those games we will never forget. Just when the game against Pumas seemed most unfair, the Rojiblancas showed why they are one of the top four teams in the championship and completed a historic comeback at home, securing their place at the top of the table and aiming to end the semester on a high note.
The Rebaño's epic performance cannot be understood without the contribution of one particular player, who came on as a substitute in the second half and changed the course of the game. With 56 minutes on the clock, coach Antonio Contreras sent Viridiana Salazar onto the pitch, hitting the nail on the head as his team stepped up a gear in attack.
'Viri' not only scored two superb goals in nine minutes, but was also one of the ways in which Guadalajara accelerated the game in the attacking third. Barely 11 minutes after coming on, she sent the ball into the corner of the university goal with a spectacular volley. She then executed a highly complex shot, also on the volley, sending Yamile Franco's 30-meter pass into the net.
We know Salazar's ability to be incisive from any position in the attack, not only when facing the opponent, but also as another point of pressure when the opponent is on the ball. With her constant speed, the Rebaño Sagrado's number 30 caused errors in the UNAM's defense, closed spaces on the counterattack, and offered width on the left wing.
Viri's scoring streak in the final stretch of the tournament is extremely important for Antonio Contreras' team, as it is another tool to help them achieve the necessary results in the three remaining games of the regular season, as well as in the AP25 playoffs.
