15.33 seconds – what might sound to some people like a respectable 100-metre time was how long it took Luis Díaz to put Bayern in front straight from kick-off at Eintracht Frankfurt at the weekend. The Colombian scored the fastest goal of the current Bundesliga season and also earned himself a place in the FC Bayern annals. Only three FCB players have scored even earlier in this competition – find out here who they were:

Bundesliga newcomers against the record champions – there was a party atmosphere in the far north when promoted side Holstein Kiel hosted Bayern in the German top flight for the first time in mid-September 2024. However, Jamal Musiala quickly spoiled the party. The youngster took the kick-off himself – and after a long kick from Manuel Neuer and a few headers, the attacker made it 1-0 to the visitors. Just 15.02 seconds had passed since referee Daniel Schlager blew for the start of the match. It remains Bayern’s earliest away goal in the Bundesliga and was the starting point of a comfortable 6-1 victory in Kiel.

13.4 seconds: Lothar Matthäus gets the title party started

In late April 1986, Lothar Matthäus celebrated not only the fastest goal in Bundesliga history at the time but later the championship too.

Title decider on the final day of the 1985/86 season. Bayern needed a win against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Matchday 34 to have a chance of overtaking leaders Werder Bremen. Their desire for the title soon became clear – the ball was already in the net after 13.4 seconds thanks to Lothar Matthäus, who scored the fastest goal in Bundesliga history at the time. It set the tone for a true champions’ performance from the Bavarians, who went on to win 6-0 against Gladbach. Matthäus and his colleagues had done their bit; and with Bremen slipping up as hoped and losing at Stuttgart, FCB snatched the title at the end.

10.88 seconds: Perfect start to the year thanks to Giovane Élber

Giovane Élber was even too quick for the photographs with his goal in January 1998 - but it wasn't to be his last action in the penalty area in this match.

Winter sleep – as if! In their first match of the year 1998 against Hamburger SV, Bayern were wide awake from the start – especially Giovane Élber. The Brazilian needed no time to warm up on the cold January afternoon, escaping his marker from Mario Basler’s long ball and nodding the ball past HSV goalkeeper Richard Golz. Just 10.88 seconds were on the clock, making it the fastest Bundesliga up to that point. Since then, Kevin Volland (9.43) and Karim Bellarabi (9.32) have overtaken him, but for Bayern the club legend is still clearly in front.

More on the Díaz Show against Frankfurt

So, Díaz is now fourth in the Bayern Bundesliga ranking. In any case, the winger made a powerful impression in Frankfurt – not least because his ultra-early goal after 15.33 seconds wasn’t his only effort on the day. More on that here:
