The Man of the Match award in Barcelona’s meeting with Rayo Vallecano did not go to one of the club’s host of attacking, or even midfield stars.

Instead, it was goalkeeper Joan García who saw his efforts in a hard-fought win rewarded.

Barcelona were of course back in action a short time ago, welcoming the aforementioned Rayo to Catalunya’s capital for a La Liga clash.

When all was said and done, a solitary goal separated the two sides, netted by Ronald Araújo during the first-half.

It was the excellence of teammate Joan at the other end, though, which ensured that Hansi Flick’s troops remained in front through the full-time whistle.

Across the 90 minutes, the former Espanyol man conjured up a whole host of top-class saves, to leave a dangerous Rayo outfit frustrated.

And as alluded to above, such endeavours did not go unrecognised, as Joan was named ‘MVP’ at the Spotify Camp Nou post-match:
