Why Bayern are currently enjoying their travels so much

FC Bayern are back on their travels – and that’s something that suits the Munich men more than any other club at the moment. Going into the away match at SV Werder Bremen on Saturday, Vincent Kompany’s side have not lost on the road in the Bundesliga for around 14 months (W14, D5). Only between 1985 and 1987 (26 games) and from 2012 to 2014 (33) have the German record champions put together a longer run of this kind. Read the facts on the match to find out what else points to another successful away outing in the north.

Record run in record match

No other fixture in the German top flight probably deserves the label of ‘Klassiker’ more than this meeting of two bastions of the Bundesliga. Bayern versus Bremen is the most played match in the league’s history, with the two sides set to lock horns for the 118th time on Saturday. Werder have taken 27 wins from them – only Borussia Mönchengladbach (28) have registered more against Bayern. However, the record champions have been in charge in recent times, with 26 wins in the last 28 league meetings.

In keeping with their current wanderlust, FCB travel with another record in their bag: they’ve won each of their last 15 Bundesliga away games at the Weserstadion, a unique run in the history of the competition.

Historic highs for FCB attack

With 79 goals after just 21 matchdays, Kompany’s men currently boast the most prolific attack in Bundesliga history. Since the 1-1 draw at Union Berlin in March of last year, the record champions have also scored at least twice in all 14 of their away league games, extending a current Bundesliga record.

Kane outscoring Bremen

Twenty-four of those goals in the current Bundesliga campaign have come from Harry Kane alone, who has scored two more than the entire Werder team (22) this term. Only Robert Lewandowski (25) in the 2020/21 season has had more goals to his name at this stage than the England captain – the Pole finished with a record 41 goals.

The odds that Kane will add to his tally on Saturday are not bad. The striker has registered nine goal involvements against Bremen to date (six goals and three assists) – only against Hoffenheim has he managed more (11).

No Olise for the first time

One player who won’t be involved in Bremen is in-form Michael Olise, who’s currently the top provider in the Bundesliga with 16 assists. The Frenchman must serve a one-match suspension having collected five yellow cards, which creates a new situation for Kompany’s team. Since his move to Munich in summer 2024, Olise has featued in all possible 55 Bundesliga matches – something no other player in the current squad has achieved.
