Chelsea are buying and selling at quite some clip at the moment, but there are also players who need to be given new contracts.
The update this week from Fabrizio Romano was on one of them – Marc Cucurella. The left back is set to be rewarded for a great season with an extension and a raise, says the top transfer insider in his latest Youtube video.
You can see Romano speaking in the clip embedded here:
“I can tell you that, according to my information, they’re already working on a new contract for Marc Cucurella,” transfer insider Romano said.
“They are expected to submit a new contract proposal to Cucurella very soon. Talks have started already to prepare the future of Marc Cucurella. Work in the progress on that one, with Cucurella who can extend his contract very, very soon, in the next weeks or months there will be a concrete discussion for Cucurella’s new deal at Chelsea.”
It’s well deserved – Cucurella already has a deal in place until 2028, so this deal is more about giving him a reward for his good form and his increasing leadership role with a salary bump than keeping other clubs away.
On the other hand, those 3 years will slip by quickly – in 12 months the whispers about a move away would start as the countdown reaches two years, so it will be nice to head that off before it develops into anything.
Since Cucurella arrived the policy of giving out long deals has only grown more prominent, so this could be a deal to 2030 or even 2032. As Romano says, we expect this all wrapped up before the end of the summer, although of course there’s no real rush as long as progress is being made.
