An explanation for the withdrawal of Federico Valverde during Real Madrid’s meeting with Osasuna on Saturday has been provided.
This of course comes fresh off an outing to forget for Los Blancos.
Real Madrid marked their return to action a short time ago, making the trip to Pamplona for a La Liga meeting with the aforementioned Osasuna.
The visitors headed into proceedings aware that a victory would have seen them move five points clear atop the Spanish top-flight table.
When all was said and done, however, Real were condemned to the wrong side of a 2-1 result.
Fede Valverde featured from the off in the matchup, and laid on his side’s only goal amid a solid individual performance.
It therefore came as a surprise when, 15 minutes from time and with the game still hanging in the balance, the Uruguayan was hauled off.
This change saw Real Madrid’s midfield balance thrown off, en route to Osasuna netting a last-gasp winner.
Speaking to the media post-match, the subject of Valverde’s substitution was therefore put to manager Álvaro Arbeloa.
And the Spanish tactician went on to explain:
“Fede felt some pain, and I subbed him out to not take any risks.”
