Why Genoa vs. Como is on during Europa League games | OneFootball

There will be a Serie A match on Thursday evening along with the Europa League and Conference League, as Genoa host Como to make way for a race.

The Serie A Week 12 fixture will kick off at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Thursday at 19.45 GMT.

This is a highly unusual date for the domestic competition, but there is a very specific reason why this game could not be scheduled for Friday night.

This is because the city of Genoa is already hosting the Rally della Lanterna race, the final stage of the Coppa Italia Rally.

Over 170 cars will be present in the streets and thousands of fans flocking to enjoy the race.

This would make it extremely difficult to also host a football match, especially as the stadium is in the city centre, so the Grifone and Como are forced to bring their encounter forward to Thursday.

Both teams were in action in Serie A on Monday evening, as the Rossoblu beat Parma 1-0, while Como lost to Empoli by the same scoreline.
