La Liga giants Barcelona would be required to fork out a significant figure, in the case of renewing the contract of attacker Ferran Torres.

Frontman Ferran has of course taken his place centre stage in the media headlines surrounding Barcelona over the last week. This comes amid the understanding that the 26-year-old is inching towards an exit from the Spotify Camp Nou.

Amid a concerted push on the part of European champions Paris Saint-Germain to land Ferran, all parties appear to be open to a deal.

And early this week, an insight into the reasoning behind Barcelona’s willingness to bid farewell to an important member of Hansi Flick’s squad has come to the fore.

The info comes courtesy of The Athletic, who confirm that, to renew Ferran’s fast-expiring contract terms, a considerable payment would be owed to the attacker’s former employers, Manchester City:

‘Barcelona are open to selling Ferran Torres this summer because extending his contract would force them to make a payment of around €8million (£6.8m; $9.1m) to Manchester City.

‘Torres’ deal at the Camp Nou expires in June 2027, and no renewal has been agreed.’
