One of the few things that brought some joy to Chelsea’s horrific end to the season was the return of Levi Colwill to action.

The defender ruptured his ACL in the first session of preseason, and didn’t return to action until May. But from the moment he returned to the team at half time against Nottingham Forest, he looked as though he had never been away, and that was thanks to his intense rehab in the preceding months.

Colwill attacked rehab but failed to make England squad after all

According to a piece in the Sun, Colwill made major changes, including moving out of his parents home to be closer to Cobham.

“Sources say Colwill attacked rehabilitation with an obsession that surprised even people inside the club,” piece claims.

“During the darkest periods of recovery, he was spending close to 13 hours a day at Cobham, following strict nutritional programmes, intense recovery schedules and the relentless physical workload required to return at elite level without losing sharpness.”

In the end, the recovery wasn’t quick enough to get him into the World Cup squad, but it will stand him in good stead next season.

In other news…

Chelsea’s suits are trying to ward off Barcelona interest in Joao Pedro by sending some very strong messages about him not being for sale.

There will be some tricky decisions about who to sell this summer – the players Chelsea would like to get rid of are not the ones who are going to generate much money.
