Why Rafael Leao is interested in possible Milan stay | OneFootball

Serie A side Milan have appeared interested in moving on from Rafael Leao this summer but the player could have different ideas in mind.

La Gazzetta dello Sport feel that the club’s stance hasn’t quite changed. They believe that the journey is over and are prepared to execute a sale to the best possible suitor that steps forward for the Portuguese but Leao has some other plans.

He has informed Zlatan Ibrahimovic that he would ideally stay beyond the campaign. His decision actually depends on the sporting project at hand and he feels he can contribute to an aggresive brand of football, which is what Milan intend to move towards.

Secondly, a lot can depend on who the club’s next manager is. Leao’s relationship with Max Allegri hit rock bottom by the end of the season and the new boss can ask Milan to not move on from the attacker, as he can feel there is more to be squeezed out of him.

The player is disappointed by how he has been treated by fans but he is willing to put everything behind him.

Staying may not be a wise call

It feels like Leao’s decision is promopted by a lack of suitors in the market, as Manchester United haven’t quite stepped forward. However, staying at Milan can only make things worse for his own career.

If not now then at some point, the club will move him on and their decision is made. The player will have to do a lot to change that perspective and he may not even be the centre of the project from next season. It would be wise if he simply seeks a transfer or things can get ugly in a matter of months.
