Sunderland have interest in Jonas Omlin and Millwall are keen on Anthony Patterson as a new goalkeeper, but the transfers are not guaranteed to fall.

There is just a week remaining in the transfer window for clubs like Millwall to conduct business but signing players could be contingent on other sides acquiring players of their own, including Sunderland.

Despite a 4-0 win over Charlton Athletic over the weekend, Millwall are still looking to bolster their ranks and strengthen their grip on a play-off berth. The Lions are yet to make a signing in the winter market.

Millwall are pushing to sign Anthony Patterson in the final week of the window. The 25-year-old is out of favour at the Stadium of Light and could seal a loan deal to the Championship before the deadline.

Millwall's Lukas Jensen is out of action currently and Max Crocombe, Joel Coleman, and George Evans are the current cover. However, to maintain their push for the top six, Alex Neil is in search of a more established number one.

Anthony Patterson's Millwall move on hold with Sunderland dealt goalkeeper blow

With Patterson an unused substitute in all 23 Premier League fixtures, Sunderland may not be able to let him go without a replacement in place. It's already been reported that Sunderland have had interest in Jonas Omlin as competition for Robin Roefs.

Sky Sports' Keith Downie revealed yesterday that Sunderland have been in talks with Borussia Monchengladbach over a deal for the Swiss international stopper. However, there has been a development since then.

In order for Patterson to leave, Omlin or another goalkeeper is required to sign in the final week of the window. But Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg has the latest.

He has revealed that Bayer Leverkusen have struck a deal to sign Omlin on loan with no purchase option, and the 32-year-old is set for a medical today ahead of the switch.

It leaves Millwall's move for Patterson up in the air, with Sunderland now needing to look elsewhere for a goalkeeper to compete with Roefs until the end of the 2025/26 season.

Anthony Patterson might not be an upgrade on Max Crocombe for Millwall

Patterson has experience of promotion twice with Sunderland, having been number one in League One and in last season's campaign under Regis Le Bris.

Millwall do not have many players with that kind of experience, and Patterson is also only 25. That could be invaluable to them, all while Patterson upgrades their situation in goal.

That being said, there are only seven goalkeepers with a better 'goals prevented' figure in the Championship than Crocombe. Per FotMob, he is having an impressive season with 2.2 prevented so far.

In 2024/25, in the same statistic, Patterson ended the season with -1.5 in this respect. Of course, there is not much to separate them but perhaps Millwall could be slightly better off sticking with what they have until Jensen comes back from injury.
