Wilfried Nancy lines up Ampadu and Dammet for Celtic roles

The French-Canadian coach is on the verge of being appointed to succeed Brendan Rodgers, which would mark his first role in football outside North America.

Over the past two seasons, the 48-year-old has lifted both the MLS Cup and the Leagues Cup, achievements that helped him earn the MLS Coach of the Year award. He also led Columbus Crew to the CONCACAF Champions Cup final last season.

According to a report by Stephen McGowan in The Herald, Nancy has recently been reaching out to past associates familiar with Scottish football and has already shared an initial vision of the types of players he hopes to bring in during the January window.

He is expected to have Ampadu – who coached Exeter City’s U18s during head of football operations Paul Tisdale’s tenure as manager – and 35-year-old French coach Dammet accompany him to Glasgow.

Following Rodgers’ departure a month ago, Martin O’Neill stepped in as caretaker manager with Shaun Maloney as his assistant.

The legendary Hoops boss is expected to hand over the reins after the Europa League meeting with Feyenoord and the upcoming visit to Easter Road to take on Hibernian. Nancy is anticipated to take charge for the first time in next week’s home match against a struggling Dundee side at Celtic Park.

The incoming Celtic manager steps into a tense situation at the Scottish champions. After the win over St Mirren in Paisley, O’Neill called for “unity” between supporters and the club, following the PLC AGM that ended abruptly amid heated exchanges between the board and supporters.

Nancy’s appointment will finally bring an end to weeks of speculation, during which the Frenchman appeared among a group of potential contenders that also included Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna, Ferencvaros boss Robbie Keane and Wales manager Craig Bellamy.

Columbus Crew missing out on the MLS Cup play-offs opened the door for discussions to advance, with Celtic aiming to reinforce several important positions when the January transfer window opens.
