Will Trent Alexander-Arnold be spared Anfield HUMILIATION?

Liverpool fans gave Trent Alexander-Arnold a reception of boos in his penultimate Anfield match as a Red and frustrations with the defender only later simmered when Jurgen Klopp got involved.

In the minds of most fans, he's considered a 'traitor' for joining Real Madrid after the side had won the Premier League, and his behaviour throughout that campaign created a lot of bad blood.

No clarity had ever been offered regarding his contract situation and a lot of false hope had been sent fans' way, before they were given the news that most had expected - that he would be leaving.

This season's 'league phase' draw in the Champions League was the first opportunity for the full-back to face his former club and it was unsurprising when UEFA's supercomputer made it happen.

Now, however, there's a risk that Trent will not indulge the Liverpool faithful in their wishes.

Injury frustrations risk homecoming upset

Fans have not been able to get Trent off of their minds since he left. Every match he appears in for Los Blancos, a 'hatewatch' takes place, hoping that the full-back's performance is underwhelming.

Of course, this is all just pettiness, but even though he's spent most of his career with Liverpool, he's now chosen to become an enemy, joining the club's fiercest European rival. As such, he's now hated.

The reception that is set to await him is straight out of the Galatasaray playbook - as hostile as humanly possible. Champions League nights at Anfield always have biblical atmospheres.

Furthermore, the Reds have a new weapon in their attack in teenage sensation Rio Ngumoha. His dribbling ability has led to embarrassing encounters in training - tapes which are set to be under wraps. Knowing how vulnerable Trent's defending can be, a humiliating affair was in the offing.

But we might not get to see it all unfold, since the Englishman has torn his hamstring again.

On Tuesday night, Trent was given a rare start for Madrid in a home match against Marseille, although his involvement only stretched to five minutes, suffering a fresh hamstring injury.

He's expected to be out for six to eight weeks, with the visit to Anfield taking place in just less than seven weeks. It's going to be touch and go as to whether he's ready.

Fitness issues like this were entirely foreseeable, given the full-back has played nearly 30,000 minutes in his career, already and he's still just 26 years old. His body has been through a lot.

But his team will need him available to step up in the Champions League as soon as possible, since his contemporary Dani Carvajal received a straight red card for violent conduct against Marseille, which will see him out for the Anfield match because of his three match suspension.

Either way, you feel Liverpool have got a slight advantage going into the clash, despite the match still being two months away. But most will hope Trent recovers in time for the homecoming, in spite how of unpleasant the fans will hope to make it for him.
