Arsenal will be without William Saliba and Gabriel Martinelli, both 24, for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup fourth-round tie against Brighton, with both players facing further tests to determine the severity of their injuries, Sky Sports reports.
Manager Mikel Arteta confirmed that Saliba, who was substituted at half-time during Sunday’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace, has been ruled out of contention. The French defender’s absence will be a particular blow given his importance at the heart of Arsenal’s back line.
“He is out for Brighton,” said Arteta. “We are assessing him, but he won’t be involved in this match.”
Meanwhile, Martinelli limped off deep into stoppage time at Selhurst Park, clutching his hamstring as he made his way down the tunnel. The Brazilian winger has been a key figure in Arsenal’s attack this season but now faces an anxious wait for scan results.
“It looks as though he’s going to be out,” Arteta added. “We have to do more tests to see the extent of the injury, but this game will be too early for him.”
Arteta did, however, offer more positive news on Declan Rice, Riccardo Calafiori, and Bukayo Saka, confirming all three are fit to feature at the Emirates.
